Why Tongues
PRAYER - "Speaking Unto God"

Some people oppose speaking in unknown tongues, arguing that it should not be done if no one can interpret what is said. But Paul explicitly urged the Corinthians to pray in tongues by the Spirit which is for personal edification, explaining that it is NOT intended to be understood by men. It is divinely inspired language. In
Acts 2 many understood the Galilaeans for they heard them speak in their native languages, which was foriegn to the Galilaeans. But sometimes men and evil spirits do not have a clue what is being said. However, God understands completely! There are many other uses for praying in tongues which we would discuss but time doesn't allow us now.

1 Corinthians 14:2 - "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries."

 PRINCIPALS - "Isaac"

Ismauel is asked to leave
but Isaac is allowed to stay.
Isaac
Isaac inherited Abraham's divine covenant blessings. His mother was barren until the age of 90. God used that to prove the power of the covenant. Isaac's life appears to be relatively non-eventful when compared to many other great characters in the Bible. But his significance cannot be overstated. Dismissing Ishmael, God called Isaac Abraham's "only son."
Genesis 26:3 - "I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father."

PRINCIPLES - "Name Changes"

God changed Abram (exalted father) to Abraham (father of many nations). He changed Sarai (princess) to Sarah (princess of all). God changed Jacob (supplanter) to Israel (Prince with God). God caused the names of the twelve tribes to be engraved in precious stones on the high priests garment. Simon (reed) became Peter (rock). Saul (prayed for) to Paul (humble). In heaven, God gives His saints a new name written in a white stone. There the wicked will be forgotten because their names will be blotted out.

Genesis 12:2 - "...and I will bless thee, and make thy name great."

Family Rules
PROPHECIES - "For I Know Him"

God knew Abraham's heart. That is a big reason why He chose him. God knew that if He blessed Abraham, He could count on him to command his children in the ways of the Lord. Every godly parent should possess this trait. It is the prerequisite to future blessings.

Genesis 18:19 - "For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him."
